Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Dilley released his first studio album of original music at age 18, and four years later graduated from the University of Iowa with Honors in Studio Art. His senior Honors project was a multi-screen video-musical performance that sync-ed with the 1971 film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Shortly after graduating, Jake signed with a booking agent and relocated to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he started The Color Pharmacy, an indie rock band that toured the country extensively and released several studio albums, sharing the stage with Adele, Tom Morello, Billy Corgan, Ben Kweller, and Peter Himmelman, to name a few. Dilley also produced studio albums for the Minneapolis-based bands Big Tree Bonsai and The Sudden Lovelys. The music video he created for The Color Pharmacy song, “Aperture”, was awarded a scholarship by acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch to attend the David Lynch Masters in Film program at Maharishi International University.
For his graduate school Masters film, Dilley teamed with fellow student and sometimes Geico Caveman, McManus Woodend, to create the feature-length mockumentary, Rocksteppy. Following a no talent musical duo cross-country on their quest for stardom, Rocksteppy features cameos from David Lynch, Peter Farrelly, Jeff Dowd, and Walter Day, and is currently free to stream on Prime Video.
In 2014, Dilley moved to Los Angeles and began working in post production sound on various film and television projects. Some of his most notable titles are: Room 134, Pose, Contemporary Color, The Front Runner, Casual, Nobody Speak, and The Politician. In 2019, he recommitted to his first creative love of drawing by conceptualizing and illustrating over 300 full-color drawings, posting them daily on his @dilleystrations Instagram page.
In 2021, Dilley will release a new song on the 21st of every month of the year under the Fake Moon Landings moniker, starting in January with “The Ballad Of Bodhi”, a 60s-style psychedelic pop song with lyrics inspired by Patrick Swayze’s character in Point Break. In the coming months/years, Jake Dilley plans to produce his short film, “Dorothy and the Shadow Man”, his feature films “Then Again” and “Help Me Save Me”, continue to contribute music and sound to other filmmakers’ work, as well as create and release more music and visual art.[/vc_column_text][vlogger-spacer size=”m”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
